Legendary country singer George Strait received his flowers last night at the Country Music Awards.
Strait, who grew up in Pearsall, Texas, received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award during Wednesday’s 2024 CMA awards.
Known for his songwriting and several No. 1 hits, the “All My Ex’s Live in Texas” singer performed at the CMA Awards and was serenaded by fellow artists during the live show.

Why did George Strait receive the Lifetime Achievement Award?
In a career of over 40 years, Strait has had 60 No. 1 hits on the Billboard chart and has sold over 70 million albums. He’s won 17 CMA awards and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
According to Country Music Hall of Fame.org, Strait took an interest in singing country music while in the military. In 1973, he auditioned for and secured the role of lead singer in a country band on base, drawing inspiration from musical icons like Hank Williams, George Jones, and Merle Haggard.
