Season 47 of “Survivor” came to a dramatic end on Wednesday night during the second episode of the season’s two-part finale.
The episode began with four remaining contestants who competed in the final immunity challenge. The winner of that challenge chose two players to face off in a fire-making challenge with the winner securing the third and final spot in the final tribal council.
Manahawkin resident Teeny Chirichillo, a 23-year-old freelance writer, lost the fire-making challenge to Sam Phalen and became the final juror.
Who won ‘Survivor’ Season 47?
In a final vote after 26 days of tough challenges, minimal food, and social and mental stress, the jury crowned Rachel LaMont, the 34-year-old graphic designer from Michigan, as the winner of “Survivor” Season 47.
During the final tribal council, LaMont persuaded the jury by bringing up her ability to adapt, going from the underdog to “someone that became a threat.” She emphasized her strategic game and the use of immunity idols and advantages.
“I believe that I am sitting here with the most dominant game of the three of us,” said LaMont. “There were two advantages and one idol in the post merge, and I controlled all of them, and that wasn’t just through luck, it was through social connections, it was through stealthiness. I had to get an idol when everyone was at camp and then I had to play it in an incredibly large fashion that I feel like made a huge statement.”
She continued, “I won four immunities, and I tied a record and I’m really really proud of it. So, I sit here pleased with my game and my story from going from a super underdog to a big dog. I hope I get your vote.”
In the end, LaMont beat Phalen and Sue Smey to earn the title of “sole survivor” and take home the $1 million check.
